About Hillard House

Built in the mid-19th century, Hillard House is a stately brick home located in

the heart of the Wilkes University campus area of downtown Wilkes-Barre.

It remained in the Hillard family for over 100 years escaping the perils of

remodeling and modernization and then passed into the ownership of new families

who loving maintained and updated the house. Thus Hillard House still retains its original windows and sash, interior shutters, hardware, wood flooring and

                                                        ornamental plasterwork .

Hillard House has three stories of living space, all accessible from

the open staircase in the entry foyer and hallway. The first floor consists of the music room, small parlor, study, and formal dining room. Second floor houses the guest rooms and the third floor has a library and seating area. Outside there are generous front and rear yards with extensive gardens

The antebellum-style front porch is spacious and breezy, shaded by century old native rhododendron. A private driveway leads to the rear yard where off- street parking is available.
